| David attended the Pleasant Valley School. When he was young there were
lots of Osage Indians in the area ( they could walk forty miles in a
day). It is said that he hid out in the hills behind his farm two weeks
to avoid going in the Civil war. He finally came in and enlisted. He
told of living on acorns while in the army. His pension was approved
1915-06-15, when he was 77 years old. On the farm he had a large peach
orchard. Glen Isgrig remembered him as a small elderly man with a long snow white beard. Glen Isgrig recalled David Greenlee used to tell him tales of the Civil War when he was a kid and he really enjoyed visiting him to hear all the stories. Glen said David Greenlee lived on the south side of the road, just up from Glen's house, opposite the old Liberty Courthouse. Lucinda Martha Paul was a school teacher. OBITUARY: A child of David Greenlee of Scotia, died recently of dephtheria. From October 24, 1889 Vilander items. NOTE: not positive this belongs here but it appears likely. OBITUARY; David Greenlee died at Hoisington,( Barton County), Kansas the body was taken to Hardy Cemetery. Mr Greenlee was one of the pioneer settlers of this part of the country. Having reached the age of 90 years, 5 months and 13 days. (Cemetery records of Crawford Co MO p 477, no dates shown.) ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- Pearl, I received the following from Barbara Daupert, e-mail = BJane40@aol.com "I finally got the information from Mabel I was waiting for and have figured out the David thing. It was David born in 1837 who married Lucinda Martha Paul so this is my great grandfather. The obituary was in the paper on Jan 28 1928 and he had died earlier on the 29th or 30th of Dec. 1927, this is the David buried in the Hardy cemetery near his son Patrick Miscal which is unreadable. I don't know if his wife was buried there or not?? Apparently he was living with his daughter in Hoisington as his body was transported back by 2 daughters who were listed as living in Kansas. I don't have a death date for his wife but imagine she had died earlier as there was no mention of her in the obit. So that mystery is now solved. So now where are David and Lucy buried?" I will verify as much of this as I can in Kansas, in the spring. Bye again for now, Pat -------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- | |
