Reference Number 165
The Fea family arrived aboard the Jersey at New Orleans and settled in St. Louis for several years before moving on to Washington County, Missouri. The 1855-56 St. Louis City directory lists Thos Fea as a gunsmith. Thomas was killed in a boiler explosion leaving widow Ann Liddle Fea and several children.

William is buried in Metcalf Cemetery, Undine, MO., the stone is very old and hard to read. On close examination, it does read William G Turnbull 1837-05-22 and 1896-03-20. William and his father-in-law Thomas Fea went into the timber and sawmill business at what was known as the old Caldwell Mill on Indian Creek, Washington Co., Mo.This is where Thomas Fea was killed in a boiler explosion. "William Grant" I received through the James John Turnbull family. If the report of his mother's maiden name is correct, then it seems this could be correct

The Washington County Journal - Thursday November 24, 1870. Explosion of a boiler

One man killed

And another severely scalded

Destruction of a Mill

At about three o'clock today a shocking accident occurred at the stream saw mill of Messrs Fea and Turnbull (generally known as Caldwells Mill) resulting in the death of an estimable citizen Mr. Thomas [Brown] Fea and severe, although not dangerous injuries to his son, Mr. Joseph [Smith] Fea. The Mill had been lying idle for a long time, until about two weeks hence when it was leased by Messrs Fea and Turnbull, and put in operation.

At the hour named the Mill was started after an intermission of about an hour in the operation. Mr. Thomas Fea was firing and his son, Joseph Fea, was running and edger nearby when the boiler exploded with such force as to break and scatter the machinery in every direction. Mr. Thomas Fea received injuries, from scalding and otherwise, which resulted in his death within an hour or two. His son, Joseph, was severely scalded on his arm and hand but not otherwise injured. It is hoped.

Mr. Fea was a native of Scotland. We think about fifty years of age. His honored family have the earnest sympathy of our Community in their sad bereavement.

CATHERINE FEA TURNBULL
The Newport Miner, June 1919: At her home in this city [Newport, Washington] Monday evening occurred the death of Mrs. Catherine Turnbull. She had been in poor health for several years.
Catherine Fea was a native of Scotland. She came to this country with her parents when eleven years old and on Sept. 29th, 1859, was married to William [Grant] Turnbull at St. Louis, Missouri. To them eleven children were born, of whom one died in infancy and ten survive her. Of the children, Wm. F. has made his home with his mother, Grant also resides in Newport and Mrs. Jas. Stewart at Usk. The others are Chilton B. and Jewel of Fairfield, Montana; Mrs. Thompson of Marshfield, Oregon; Mrs. Merritt of Granite City, Ill; and three sons, Jas. J., Robt. A. and Thomas W. of Potosi, [Washington county] Missouri. A sister, Mrs. J. C. Scott resides in Newport. Mr. Turnbull died 26 years ago.
Mrs. Turnbull reached the age of 80 years. Since 1901 she resided in Newport, and was known and beloved by many of our people as "Aunt Kate." She was a good mother, one of those home-loving women whose every thought is of devotion and sacrifice for her own.
Funeral services were held at Congregational Church Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. Jas. N. Pendleton. Interment was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery beside her mother [Ann Liddle Fea] who died ten years ago.
Card of Thanks - We wish to extend our sincere Thanks to friends for their deeds of kindness and sympathy shown us during the sickness and at the death of our beloved mother and sister. - The Turnbull Family
